streetwalking surprises
Posted in dubai public scene on 05/28/2007 10:47 am by GraceDespite the unrelenting efforts of authorities to fight the strange scenario of streetwalkers plying their illegal trade on the streets of the cosmopolitan desert nation, the world’s oldest profession is still at large.
There isn’t a day while walking to/from work when I don’t encounter a guy stopping his car in front of me and suggesting something. During my first few weeks, I was confused, scared (they don’t force you to get in, though) and angry (do I look like I am selling my ware?!). I stop and look at myself if I missed a button in my shirt or I forgot to zip my fly. They say the heat can make dogs go crazy but I am still functional, thank you– I am dressing decently and covering the necessary, buttons and zips intact.
The highly conservative society, the number of males outnumbering the females exponentially — 20 males to 1 female, these creates the demand for prostitution. Mind you, demand for anything can be created — toothpicks, nail polish, toilet paper…
To be astutely graphic, the prostitution situation in Dubai is a case of supply fitting the demand. And surprise, surprise, these brazen lasses don’t even necessarily bother with safe sex and continues to pose a serious health risk. Stupid but not stupid enough as the men who do not care protecting themselves or the wives and girlfriends they later transmit their nasties to.
I think it is pragmatic to realize that the problem will never go away. It has been there before, it is here now and it will definitely stay. I believe that when it comes to sex, anyone would be stupid to venture without cover. It is better for all concerned that it be open. Safety is paramount. No balloons, no party!
While some years ago the sleazy streetwalkers are confined in one area, most parts of the city now had become famous pickup points. Prostitution being illegal here, the needy won’t know which is the right candidate unless they stop and ask, literally!

Four months ago, I would flare up, disgusted and gruntling. Now, I just ignore them and sign them to fuck off go away and they are so polite to just speed off while on the lookout for someone else.
