We go to the beach on Fridays, as early as 8 am when the sun is not hot yet and we see these two women fully clad in their black robes, not in the normal, colorful swimsuits we know taking a dip in the water.

I can’t imagine having to wear all those layers in that heat, let alone trying to swim in them. P looks so cute in her swim togs

Summer Stock Sunday is starting soon – come check it out!
Thanks, Robin! I can’t imagine wearing those robes too and how uncomfortable it must be to swim in them.

Very cool pic as ALLLLLWAYS!
Do they call those berkas in Dubai?
Thanks, Shiela! The black, long robes are called Abaya.
Super Cute!
Cute pic. of your daughter. I guess thats how the other woman do it. Not sure.
Happy WW – TFS
What I wanted to say in that post was, while we can see normal swimmers with the usual swim wear in Dubai (even some in bikinis or thongs!), the Arab women swim wtih their full dresses on!

From the pic you cant tell if the women are indeed wearing burqas (which covers the face) they are wearing the Abbaya (the long black robe) and a scarf.
I guess they wanted to enjoy dipping in the water Dubai Style lol
Is Pristine getting cuter by the day or am i imagining it?
How do Muslim women swim in the beaches there in Oman?
>> Is Pristine getting cuter by the day or am i imagining it?
Thanks…I think I would like to believe that yes, she is getting cuter…LOL! I’m not biased, just a mom….hee hee
Super model! She is adorable. We did that as a kid in Thailand as well. Not with head scarf but if you go to Thailand you will see people go to the beach with short and t-shirt instead of bathing suit. It’s the cultural thing indeed.
Even in the Philippines, only foreigner go to the beach in proper swim suits! But at least it’s a shirt and shorts for us, not dresses like the some women here in Dubai!

I would love to be at the beach every Friday!
Happy Wednesday!
Yes, we are lucky to be able to do that here in Dubai! I am so thankful. The beach relaxes me…but not on the summer months though. The sand will burn the soles of your feet!
Very interesting difference.
I get too hot in my jeans and a t shirt, I can’t imagine wearing long hot layers.
I can only imagine how hot this women can become during summer when temps rise to 120F!

I don’t think I could do it. PS you have a darling daughter!
Wow, I didn’t even think of what would be socially acceptable swim wear where you are. Happy WW Grace.
Anything is ok in Dubai..you can even find women in bikinis and some go overboard with thongs!! On the other hand, you would see these women fully clad in their abayas (long black robes) in the water too.

She’s adorable…and the water is such a pretty shade of blue!
Yes, if there’s one single thing I have to say that I love about in Dubai, it is the clean, clear beaches (that is available 8 months a year!)

Your daughter is so adorable! I absolutely adore this photo, seeing the culture differences always makes me smile.
Thanks, Jen! You can see so many cultural differences side by side in every nook and corner of Dubai!!
Lol, that’s how I felt when I was in the Philippines, and everyone was swimming in their clothes!
Wear a bikini in the Philippines and people will look at you like you have two heads! LOL!
Different cultures are so interesting. I had never considered people going into the water “fully clothed” because they had to. Thanks for sharing.
And what’s more interesting is that here in Dubai, you can see another woman showing more skin (sometimes leaving a little to the imagination) in the same beach!
What are they doing and why are going into the water wearing clothes like that. The Little girl is so cute she seem enjoying the day..
