M had been asked to evaluate a hotel near Dubai creek for his work and we were invited to see the rooms overlooking the lagoon. It was such a great experience to see this body of water that is so much part of Dubai’s history. We have strolled along its banks but this was my first time seeing it from above:

~north of the creek~
Some have noted that this body of water was too big to be called a creek. I don’t know why they call it that way too, it sounds strange to me too as I have been used to seeing creeks that are dirty. Dubai Creek, however, is so clean the water is so clear. The government is taking action towards making it presentable for tourists.

~Traditional dhows for commercial and tourism use line up at the creekside~
The first settlement was built along the creek. On the Deira side, traditional wooden dhows still trade with the sub-continent, Iran, East Africa. You’ll see all kinds of goods being loaded from sacks of clothes to spices to trucks!

My husband had an appointment at an office near Dubai Creek and asked me, out of the blue if I want to come out and see some sun. I quickly jumped out of my seat and out of the steel-cold office and joined him for a free ride around Deira. Don’t tell my boss.
Dubai creek is a large shallow lagoon (sea water) that divides Dubai into two, namely, Deira and Bur Dubai. The creek is a historic focal point of life in Dubai. The side where we stopped for a walk is a paved promenade and along it, dhows for tourism purposes. We were asked if we would like a ride all the way to the other side but as much as we would love to, we have to go back to work!
The creek was surprisingly clean despite the number of dhows docked. I can even see the submerged part of the ship!
Here are some pictures taken during that random mid-day walk. The air was refreshing. As usual the sky is blue and cloudless and the most important part of it all, it is no longer hot! Not hot nor cold, just right. It was a great day to spend outside.

This has been long overdue. We went to Madinat Jumeirah and Al Qasr Hotel last month for hubby’s official business. It was dang hot at 42C or more but we can’t go without taking pictures, can we?

Madinat Jumeirah is a resort in Dubai styled to resemble an Ancient Arabian citadel. Unlike other resorts and hotels in the city, it is not close to any construction work so you can enjoy the peace and quiet during your stay. Although we did not stay there, Al Qasr Hotel was magnificent. Actually, to call it a hotel would be an understatement. If you go check out the traveler reviews around the net, you’ll most likely find 5 stars in it.
It has that luxurious feel, making you forget about all the heat real world outside. The famous world’s only 7-stars hotel, the Burl Al Arab is visible from the ground floor deck. The rooms are overlooking the beautiful Arabian Sea and I am sure it is a perfect romantic getaway.
