Living in the big construction site - 1

Yesterday I went to the mall at Sallahudin Road to buy something. I was lost on my way there. Not lost like I do not know where I was; I was lost not knowing which path to take, which side of the road to walk or which part of the street is safe to walk or not.

The last time I had been to that mall was just a week ago yet so much has changed!

So this was the reason why buses are getting rerouted almost on a weekly basis. Just after the bus stop where I get down every morning, the messy construction work for Dubai Metro is going on 24 hours a day.

Just near this is my office building and we can hear all the drilling and hammering all day long. Noisy, I know, but it has involuntarily sunk in my system that the moment these pounding sounds stop, it makes me wonder if I am still in Dubai.

I can’t complain much though. The sight of the laborers toiling under the heat of the sun is enough to quiet my whining:

While I was passing by and taking pictures, one laborer was scolded by the foreman for not using his protective gloves while handling steel cables. A man in white, most probably a medic came rushing with a first-aid kit in hand. The laborer burned his palm when he touched some metals that were exposed to the desert sun. (I did not take pictures of that incident.)

Here, it is not unusual for metals to turn hot enough that you can fry an egg on it.
