You can’t do it here, you can’t do it anywhere!

I didn’t plan to talk about the latest controversy/scandal that occurred here in Dubai a few days ago but alas, I can’t help it!
The news of the woman arrested and probably facing as much as six years of jail time for having sex on the beach must have reached you now. No? I even read it sensationalized in Perez Hilton, a Hollywood gossip page.
As the news said, the woman who’s smiling photograph and real name is displayed in The Sun, is charged for the following:
- Drinking alcohol in public
- Caught drunk in public
- Having sex in public
- …with a man not her husband (I suppose it’s half ok if it’s your husband? Just kidding)
- Verbally assaulting a police officer who reprimanded her by calling him, “f****** Muslim **** “
- Physically assaulting the same cop with her high-heeled shoe (she was wearing shoes while having sex?)
I’ve read comments like, “Don’t go to Dubai because of its backward, traditional, stone-age rules”, or “Beware, you’ll get charged for having sex in public in Dubai”.
Having lived here for almost two years now, I find that the mentality towards foreigners in the Emirates, most especially Dubai is very relaxed, forward thinking, progressive and accepting. Remember, the policeman warned them the first time and yet they continued to have a second round!
Doing the act in public is a crime not only here but in any Western country as well. Not? Having it in public (plus hitting a police officer) is just plain ignorance and appalling disrespect, regardless of wherever country you are!
I really can’t understand what was in her mind
The police-man was so nice that even warned them first!!! So why they didn’t react, in a normal way, which anyone would do……….
Sex on the beach is forbidden all over the world(it’s not a matter of Muslim country)!!!

It seems like the other sites that are talking about this incident fail to concentrate on the fact that she assulted a police officer and was obviously out of control. Someone like that deserves reprimand.

Grace, more than the “indecent” act, I am more concerned about going beyond a person’s tolerance with alcohol. I guess, this is the “root” of the issue. I always say that a person should know his/her limits when it comes to alcohol intake.
Just recently, I had a bad experience with a “supposedly” friend of mine who got really drunk and made a huge scene in public, accusing me and a couple of other friends of unthinkable stuff! The guy is actually Muslim!

Having sex in public is illegal every place I know of. So I’m not sure why people are surprised. I like the joke about the husband, half ok - too funny.
The first round should have been her last. You pointed out the having sex with heals on… That is hot… especially if they were red pumps. But what I’m concerned with is that it was on a beach… Why does she have shoes on while in the sand. Unless she was on the boardwalk - then I can understand.
