moved

by Grace on March 18, 2007

Thank God we have finally moved. No more airplane noise, no more sneaking to cook and hopefully no more hand washing. We were not permitted to cook at the company guesthouse (but we did after Pristine had a very serious bout of stomach bug because of eating out) and there was no washing machine available.

The HR person who had been taking care of our accomodation finally took his job seriously and said he is going to give me the keys to our flat so that we can move in as soon as possible. But the last time I visited the flat, things are still in a hefty mess. There are lots of construction debris insided the rooms, the kitchen not yet fixed and has a gaping hole to which the exhaust fan is supposed to be attached. So I went there with the keys and checked. It was hideously hot and humid last Thursday at 32C and around 70% + of humidity! This was so sudden. The past days, we were still enjoying the crisp, mild weather and it just got crazy last Thursday capped with a very violent sand storm!

Today we are back to a cool 22C this morning at 8am.

Anyway, I finally decided to vent out to the real estate company. I called them and asked why it is taking forever to get the flat ready when my company has already paid for it, for the whole year! They said it’s just a matter of minutes to take care of the problem and I need not worry. The woman at the other end of the line was clearly testing my patience when she told me my family has to move in first and then she’ll take care of the rest. She is definitely out of her damn mind. So I gave her an ultimatum, that if they don’t get the flat decently ready, I will look for another one. The next day, the flat was spic and span and the hole was no longer there.

By noon, all our things are inside the flat. The washing machine we bought was scheduled to deliver in the early afternoon. Loads of laundry awaits as we did not hand-wash anything for three days already, anticipating the move and wanting to leave it all to the machine — we are dead tired of doing hand washing everyday for two months at the company guesthouse!

Washing machine came and delivery guys let out a sigh and went. They can’t install it and we can’t use it. Our flat is not equipped with water supply needed to connect the washing machine! Horror!! I called the real estate company again with blood pressure shooting up to the heavens….how can this be? She said that it will be OUR responsibility to call the plumber and have them DRILL through some wall and make the water and electricity connection for the washing machine. I thought I was about to faint.

Hubby and I were either depressed about the plumbing job we have to order or the piles of laundry that we have to hand wash again. Life just gets more and more exciting, ey.

I was a nervous wreck with a very heavy heart and extremely painful period — of all the time! Hubby was asking a thousand and one questions why its like this and like that when in Japan these abnormal things don’t happen. Pristine is echoing her dad’s sentiments and making her voice big, it echoes throughout the barren room to her ultimate excitement. She is opening every box on the floor and experimenting at every piece of baggage me have sprawled all around then she splat the vinegar on the bed sheet. Perfect, just perfect!!

So how (horrible) did your weekend went?

When everything is settled and the sour smell of vinegar taken care of, M and I were still awake and listening and watching to guess what? Lightning and thunder on Dubai skies at 11 pm in the balcony of our 7th floor flat.

I love the sound of thunder and lightening. We get some awesome storms here. What is the temp over there normally. We have 37 degree temps here at the moment.
Moving is horrible. Just horrible. What with all the problems you guys are having, it just makes things worse. I hope you get all settled soon
