we had a 999 situation

Remember about me talking about having a long weekend some days back? Well, I was actually talking about the weekend that just passed. We got three days off from work and school and although we actually thought of visiting some random neighboring country, we actually didn’t and would you believe, we, particularly, I, just stayed at home the whole time if you would not count the trip to the hospital.

Pristine had been feeling really bad since last Wednesday. I have not slept properly for days. Nothing to feel sorry about me, I have slowly mastered the art of staying up late at night and managed not to burn or cut my fingers in the kitchen the next morning.

We went to the hospital last Friday and was prescribed meds. She was starting to feel ok, playing and talking so much again. The next morning, when I was about to go out of the house for an errand, she asked me to stay. I stayed. In a span of minutes everything went too fast, in a blur. She complained of stomach ache at 8:30 when we were about to have breakfast (she woke up late). I carried her, after a minute, she screamed of pain. I took her to bed and took her undies off, then we’ll go to the toilet. She fell unconscious just like a piece of cloth held then dropped.

Her eyes were closed, unresponsive, face white and lips turning blue. I was so scared I carried her to a much wider room for more air, called out to the other people inside the house and called emergency number 999 and asked for an ambulance.

I know I have to be calm, but strangely, my frantic mom was calmer than I was. I have gone through febrile convulsions with my little girl before but never she has been unconscious, ever. What if she never wakes up on me?

I was crying while talking on the phone. It was so hard to explain about our location while looking at my baby not regaining consciousness. This is Dubai and the thought of rescue being delayed because of traffic scared the hell out of me. The man at the other end of the line told me ambulance is on its way and we need to go out.

I ran out in my house clothes: in my shirt (braless, gasp!!), house slippers and a pair of pants I slept with (a colorful pajama!). It was the least of things I could care of but thank goodness I was able to grab a cardigan to cover up.

The ambulance was waiting for us at the other end of the street. I ran towards it, cuddling my very weak daughter. It must have been the fastest run I had in my whole life. When she was laid to the stretcher, she was conscious and wide-eyed, wondering what had happened. The ambulance staff were efficient, professional and very responsive. Honestly, I did not expect them to be.

We were taken to Al Wasl Hospital where she was confined for a day, screened thoroughly. There was nothing to worry with the test results, all were normal. The fainting probably happened because she was taking a strong dose of antibiotics and with an empty stomach that morning and a weak body because of flu, she was not able to tolerate the pain.

It still sounds like a remote incident to me even now that she is discharged from the hospital and playing at home.

**The balloon ride we had as written in the post before this one was taken more than 2 weeks ago, not last weekend.**

I’ve been so buried with work I haven’t visited in a few days, and had no idea about this. I’m really sorry you had to endure that. I haven’t had this happen with my children, but I know the deep panic and fear that can strike you. My husband had a grand mal seizure - out of the blue - three years ago. I had never seen one before, and thought he had died of a heart attack in my arms. He was unconscious, pale, blue lips… The paralyzing fear and crazy thoughts that go through your head…and bad dreams for a long time! Blessings to you.
