Finding the time to exercise

by Grace on May 16, 2009

This week is Week 2 into the Turbulence Training Transformation Contest and I’m going to talk about finding the time to exercise.

no time to exercise

How many of us have put off doing exercise even if the goal is to lose weight, because of a busy schedule, kids or a busy career? I know, I did. I work outside the home for 6 out of 7 days a week. I hurry home to my daughter after work because of guilt and mostly because I want to relax. I am tired and didn’t want to incorporate exercise that will tire me more at the end of a long day.

How wrong I was. I get tired because I didn’t exercise, not the other way around!

Now I am exercising 6 days a week and feel more energized. But I don’t go to the gym after work. I go out during lunch time to a gym located just beside the building where I work. Lucky, I know. This fitness schedule is the only schedule that works for me right now. My lunch break is from 13:00-14:00 and here is my exercise schedule:

  • 12:50 – dash to the gym (when some of my colleagues are going out for prayer)
  • 13:00 – arrive in the gym room, already dressed up (I change as fast as I can)
  • 13:00-13:30 – do my 30 minutes of exercise
  • 13:35-13:45 – 10 minutes of sauna
  • 13:45-13:55 – quick 10 minutes of shower
  • 14:00 – back in my office desk

Is 30 minutes enough? YES, it is if spent in the right way. If doing all the wrong things, even 2 hours in the gym is never enough! Just say no to long and boring, traditional cardio!

The Turbulence Training program is short and sweet but it’s no non-sense. When I first did it, my body was sore for days and sweating a bucket. So many months of no exercise had me limping after doing lunges and squats. But after that, I found renewed energy because of that 30 minutes of quality, time-worthy exercise.

Truth is, Craig Ballantyne said Turbulence Training is done only three times per week. The other days, you can enjoy a light to moderate activity – walk your dog, jump rope, etc. I do intervals (intervals! not steady state cardio!) on elliptical or jump rope on the days I don’t do TT.

So there I don’t have to let my daughter wait for me in the evenings while I do non-sense things in the gym after work. I am thankful that I found an exercise schedule and a program that works for me and my family. I hope you find yours too!

Friday weigh in: -0.5 lbs

Only a little bit of weight off this week but since during this time of the month when I usually gain up to 2 lbs because of water retention, I lost 0.5 lbs. I am not disappointed at all.

May you have a healthy and happy week!

I found that losing weight is not that hard as anyone would think. It sure takes commitment and following a simple plan but the key element is persistance.

You need to monitor the calories, lose the junk food, sodas, sweets and do some physical exercises. I myself love dancing. And remember to use a fat burner to accelerate the fat metabolism.

I feel how you feel about rushing to the gym. It is definitely something I have to schedule in but I make the effort to go 5 or 6 days a week!

Hey Grace, I just found your blog through your comment at my blog. I see that you’re doing the current TT transformation contest. Good for you! I am sure you will see some great results.

It’s interesting to read about your life there in Dubai. My husband is going to Kuwait this week for his 6-month deployment and he’s not looking forward to the desert summer heat…lol. also, my brother currently lives in Okinawa and he loves it over there.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I wish lots of luck with this transformation!

Keep up the good work. I feel so much better when I exercise enough. Unfortunately I have not been getting enough lately. If I can get 3 really good workouts a week (mostly basketball or long hikes) that seems about right for me.
