Meltdown 2010 30-day fitness challenge report

Before the end of December 2009, I got an email from Dax Moy to join a fitness challenge and I did. I thought, what a perfect timing and great way to start the New Year. I signed up to something called Meltdown 2010 by London personal trainer, Dax Moy. The Meltdown 2010 program is a 30-day fat loss challenge aimed at producing results (melting fat) that can be done normally in 12-16 week programs.

I joined in because it’s the New Year (wanted to start with good habits and right mindset) and because Christmas had been a little too good to me.

Dax Moy asked the group to do 4 workouts per day, for thirty days. The workouts are short, just 15-20 minutes each but it doesn’t mean, in any way that it would be easy. It was far from easy!! There were days when I could only do three or none at all because I was too sore, especially during the first few days. It’s amazing though how fast I gained strength, I am able to do 60 pushups (in segments) in one of the four workouts without feeling like my arms would come off the next day.

I love pushups, by the way. They make me feel empowered.

My workout schedule from January 1-30 was:

  • 5:30 – 6:00 am  – I woke up before anybody else in my house and do my first workout of the day. I’ve heard some people complain how hard it is to wake up early in the morning. I say, it is only hard if you sleep late . Try sleeping at 8:30 pm! :-)
  • 7:00 – 7:30 am – Right after Pristine is picked up by her school bus, I do my second workout
  • 1:00 – 2:00 pm – I do my third workout at the gym near my office.
  • 7:15 – 7:45 pm – I do my fourth workout if I am not too taxed during the day. <<confession>> Most of the days I was exhausted though so I’ve skipped this

To cut the long post short, I am glad I joined Dax Moy’s Meltdown 2010 group. The members were an inspiration and it was good to do it with everyone else. Dax had been so supportive of everyone and his advices kept us going. The program, by the way was FREE. So I’d like to thank London’s best personal trainer to find time to do this with people like me whose been struggling with weight and wanting to win the battle of the bulge.

These past thirty days, I’ve found renewed strength, energy, mental focus and improved relationship with food and attitude towards it. One more thing I’ve learned is that if you have a fixed program written on paper to follow, most likely, you will do it. I call it ”ROBOTIC TRAINING”. You write or print the workouts on paper and amazingly, you will aim to do it (at least I do!). No wandering around what to do next!

If Dax announces another free program like this, I’ll announce it here in my blog so many people can join. I will surely be joining again and hope to see some of you in the forums!

Ok what is a long workout/exercise program blah without talking about the results?

In thirty days, I’ve lost (only) 6 lbs so far but 3 inches off my belly. I could’ve been happy if I lost more but having insulin resistance, I’m feeling great that I was able to push harder and lose some. Anyway, the scale is just a number, right? I’ve snapped a photo of myself to see (shamelessly publicly show) progress, no matter how little:

Black is deceiving – I still have a lot to lose but looking back at my old photos before I started all these exercising stuff was mind blowing. I was far, far from looking and being healthy.

before exercising photos 2008

Summer of 2008 and mostly until April-May 2009 (I am not pregnant in these photos!)

It took a lot of ‘tallking to myself’  whether to post my past photos or not in my blog. But I’ve decided, this was my past and looking at it will give me the drive not to look like it again.

These were the days when I ate mindlessly, did zero exercise (I came up with a lot of b.s. excuses) and had lots of migraines, back aches and loss of self confidence because of it. I think I’ve not taken a lot of photos of myself after this.

A sideview pic to see what has become of the once protruding belly:

Not looking pregnant anymore!

While I’m happier with the flatter belly, smaller jeans/clothes, I am the happiest that I’ve gotten rid of the terrible migraine attacks and back aches – probably the best result of losing weight.

Lastly, as much praise I can give to Dax over his workouts, I need to stress out that nutrition came hand in hand. You can’t just exercise that Big Mac away. Diet and nutrition wins over exercise hands down. Next week, I’ll talk about Elimination Diet, Carb Cycling and one important diet advice that Dax provided!

Hey Grace, great job! Four workouts a day is no joke. I read your post about insulin resistance and I have it too. It runs in my family as well which is one of the main reasons why I wanted to live a healthier lifestyle. I can’t wait to hear about your next post. I did well on ED but not so much on carb cycling which is baffling to me. I’m currently looking into it and seeing if it has anything to do with my insulin resistance. With ESE though, I should be able to increase my insulin sensitivity.

You are making progress. Well done!

First, let me say, you look amazing!!! Second, I really glad that you are not suffering from migraines and back pain anymore… those are things I suffer with constantly. You are such an inspiration to all of us and are definitely setting a wonderful example of healthy living for Pristine.
Keep up the good work!
