I‘m still having pain in my tooth despite the medication I was given a few days ago. My teeth is being non-responsive to the meds, add to that, I now find it very painful to eat, to even touch the teeth with my tongue. If I eat and the upper teeth touches the lower, all hell breaks loose. Won’t elaborate further.
It’s been three days since I stopped going to the gym because I can’t lift weights with the pain or run. It is even impossible for me to do simple jumping jacks and lunges. My whole body shudders at every movement. So I’ve been with no exercise but I can’t eat properly so I guess it balances out and erase my worries of gaining weight because of skipping my workouts.
I can only eat soft foods for now and it’s funny because the soft foods being offered to me by friends at the office include chocolates. Yeah, it’s soft but chocolate for someone with toothache? Nothing can be more ironic than THAT!
Here are some soft foods that get me by with this current achy tooth situation:
- Soft fruits -Mangoes, bananas, pineapple, kiwi fruit - it’s soft, satisfying and contains natural sugars. I love fruits and it’s sad that I can’t take apples and pears for now.
- Oatmeal – satisfying morning breakfast
- Plain/Fruit yoghurts – they make great snacks
- Mashed Potato with a dash of salt and pepper, no butter
- Vegetable soups – made from squash, leafy greens
- Beans – I cooked baked beans from scratch, without meat and sugar. The beans are soft, I won’t have to scream everytime I chew and they are a rich source of protein.
- Non-fat milk, 100% fruit juices (no sugar added), green tea - I take these with any soft fruit. The last thing you’ll ever want to do while skipping workouts is taking wasted liquid calories in sodas and sugar filled juices.
Another root canal is on the cards so probably, I’ll be on the above diet for the next few days. It isn’t that hard but I would be happy for this toothache to go away so I can go back to the gym. I really want to try the new Turbulence Training program called “Booty for Life” (because all butts need a lift, well, at least mine!). Catchy, isn’t it? I want to go back to the gym not only to try that but for me lately, exercising do not only mean fat loss or butt improvement, I love feeling light and active and I feel I’m stocked up with happy feelings whenever I workout. Happy hormones, you know?
Skipping a workout (or workouts) don’t really mean you’re bound for failure. Taking care of nutrition, even if you don’t have a toothache(!) will make the difference between an additional inch in your waistline or an extra pound in the weighing scale. After all, fat loss is all about calories in vs. calories out, as simple as that. If you’re not doing much in the calories out department, then you should refrain from the calories in too, to create a balance.
And if you don’t have toothache, you could always stick to natural, whole foods, preferably stay away from artificial sugars and you should be fine. Do go back to being active at least 30 mnutes per day, though. You would want a piece of that happy hormones, believe me.

Oh you poor dear, I’m so sorry. The thing with a toothache is that if you take enough med to feel no pain, you’re completely zoinked out.
I dread going to the dentist also but worse than that….the GYN. I don’t know where it’s worse to have a stranger pokin around.
I have a nice recipe for red lentil-lemon soup that takes 20 mins and is super easy and tasty, if you want. I haven’t been able to go to the gym much in the past 2 weeks, either, although I’m looking noticably thinner I haven’t actually lost any weight! Hope you feel better

Again, I’m sorry for you! How about brown rice? That is a good complex carbohydrate that is good for energy that is soft… I love rice and you can mix it with your veggie soup or your beans. I know too much can put on the pounds, but a little can go a long way.
Hope this all ends soon for you… You are getting a LONG distance hug from me.

I completely agree with you on most of these, the only ones I don’t know about are the mashed potato and the fruit juices, which are really high in sugar/carbs. Fruit juice can be like a shot of sugar sometimes! its much better to eat actual fruit, or have sparkling water with a twist of lemon or lime. and instead of mashed white potatoes try mashed sweet potato, if you can get it, it’s got more nutrients and it will keep you filled up.
Good luck
