What kind of soap is in your bathtub right now? Palmolive Grape Fruit Scent and Johnson’s baby soap for the tot.

Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator? No. Watermelons here come from Egypt or India and they are too tired from long-haul travel to be sweet.

What would you change about your living room? The sofa. We need a new sofa but I am not sure what to buy because the elevator in our building is very small!

Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty? We don’t have a dishwasher, we wash by our hands. We had one when we were in Japan and I miss that machine.

What is in your fridge? Milk, lots of yoghurt, meat, vegetables, oranges, apples, the usual stuff.

White or wheat bread? White.

What is on top of your refrigerator? Food wrap, aluminum foil, a box of tissue, folded kitchen towels.

What color or design is on your shower curtain? Cherry blossoms.

How many plants are in your home? One. Our plumeria tree in the balcony.

Is your bed made right now? Yes. We bed-make every morning right after waking up. No exceptions, even the little tot is doing it too.

Comet or Soft Scrub? Comet.

Is your closet organized? Yes, in my own way (whatever that means!).

Can you describe your flashlight? We don’t have a flashlight!

Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home? Glass. I don’t like the smell of water in plastic cups. But don’t tell my daughter, she might think we are discriminating! She, at her age now only uses plastic cups.

Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now? No.

If you have a garage, is it cluttered? I don’t like clutter and we don’t have a garage.

Curtains or blinds? Curtains and we still don’t have any. Our house is open to the public. (We live on the 7th floor and no one can see us anyway - - for now…or until the adjacent building completes)

How many pillows do you sleep with? 2

Do you sleep with any lights on at night? I can’t sleep with the lights on. Must be all dark for me to sleep well.

How often do you vacuum? We don’t vacuum as we have no carpets. We sweep with the traditional broom and dust pan or mop. My mom mops everyday, complete with Lysol solution.

Standard toothbrush or electric? Standard.

What color is your toothbrush? Blue & white.

Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch? Yes, we need to have one! Our shoes collect a lot of sand from outside!

What is in your oven right now? Just the oven racks.

Is there anything under your bed? No. My mother wants no obstruction when she mops under beds.

Chore you hate doing the most? Cleaning the toilet. Weeding.

What retro items are in your home? None.

Do you have a separate room that you use as an office? No but would love to have one!

How many mirrors are in your home? None. We only have built-in mirrors in the bathroom, that’s all. That is why there are times I go out with my fly unzipped!

Do you have any hidden emergency money around your home? Yes.

What color are your walls? White.

Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home? Yes, I recorded my daughter’s shrieking voice on tape. Just kidding. Seriously, no.

Can’t help to add this: when I was 9, I slept with a knife under my pillow after watching Nightmare on Elm Street. I thought I’d be ready in case Freddy comes. I shiver now everytime I remember waking up the next morning with the knife very near my face!

What does your home smell like right now? Vanilla Cream.

Favorite candle scent? Vanilla but we don’t do candles since kid was born. She thinks candles are only for birthdays so she blows each lit candle she finds!

What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now? Japanese radish pickles (fukujin-zuke).

What color is your favorite Bible? Blue

Ever been on your roof? No.

Do you own a stereo? No. We play music using the computer.

How many TVs do you have? None.

How many house phones? Not installed yet.

Do you have a housekeeper? Me and my mother, well, mostly my mother. Thanks, ma!

What style do you decorate in? Practical, kid-safety style.

Do you like solid colors in furniture or prints? I think I go for solid colors.

Is there a smoke detector in your home? Of course.

In case of fire, what are the items in your house which you’d grab if you only could make one quick trip? Assuming that everyone in my family is safely outside, I would go back and grab the little blue bag with all our cash cards, passports and other important documents. We actually put all the important things in one place just in case. It should be marked: “In case of fire, grab this.”
