Another non-surprising turn of events happened in Dubai yesterday. The heat outside was nothing compared to what was going on inside Jumeirah Beach Hotel where a number plate auction was held.
The car registration plate number F33333 finally sold for AED1,130,000 (US$308,000) at a Roads and Transport Authority Distinguished Number Plates Auction after a tough bidding which attracted at least 250 bidders.
The five-digit number plates of category F topped the session with the number F33333, the best seller, followed by F88888 which was sold for AED1.30 million and F66666 for AED1.10 million.
A few months ago, Talal Ali Mohammad Khouri, a businessman and member of the board of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, paid AED11 million (approx. US$3 million) for the single-digit number 7.

i don’t get it! they paid only for the car registration plate numbers? is there a really nice car attached to the plates?

They did that too here. Though the cost was not as high compared to Dubai’s but it’s still pricey PI norms. Chinese peeps mostly participated in the recent car numbers game.

Here in New Hampshire it only costs us $25.00 to get a special plate. I would do that. Any more, no way!

I don’t understand. Why do these plates cost so much money? I used to have one with my name on it and I don’t remember it costing that much!
