Backing up files is so important. Don’t just sit there and pretend your data will be preserved forever without doing anything. I have done that and severely regretted it so. My previous PC died on me one summer, passed away just like that, taking all my precious photo files in its grave. I have never been more remorse all my life!
You can buy DVD-R’s to copy your files or another hard drive to store them. Another trend to backup files is the use of an online backup service. IDrive-E offers such service, for free! The basic free package is for remote backups up to 2GB. Unlimited storage is just $4.95 permonth or $49.50 per year. Backups are secure because transfer and storage are encrypted.
It does not take to be a techie to do this. This web-based service can be used by accessing a special mapped drive on your personal computer. Then you can access files on this mapped drive as if it is on your local hard drive.

You are so right on this one! I bought a 300GB portable hard drive that is so convenient to move back and forth. I feel comfortable in knowing that if I need my data in an emergency, I can just grab the small hard drive and have all my pics with me. Plus, it is an easy way to move data from one computer to another. Now they have 1 terabyte hard drives…that’s a lot of information!
