Happy Easter!

by Grace on April 12, 2009

I’ve been in two foreign countries for the last 12 years, both of them non-Christian. While I don’t really label myself a devout and religious woman, celebrations like Christmas and Easter still want me to stay home and do something else meaningful. But how do I fare these past 12 years?

While studying in Japan for the first 5 years of my stay there, I am lucky to be able to go back to my family to celebrate Christmas 4 out of 5 times and Easter Sunday is well, a Sunday so not a big deal even if it’s school season or not. The next 5 years where I spent working in various Japanese companies had me sitting in the office on Christmas eve and Christmas day. In the Japanese calendar, December 25 is not marked red and is a normal working holiday. December 23, is, however, a national holiday because of Pristine’s birthday it’s the Emperor’s birthday. Easter Sunday gets lucky because the weekend in Japan, just like the most of the places in the world in Saturday and Sunday, so it’s safe.

We relocated in Dubai on 2007 and so far, I worked for two Christmas days and three Easter Sundays. I miss celebrating these two holidays in a normal way. I guess it’s the consequence Christians have to face when living in a non-Christian country.

Anyway,  may all of you celebrating have a blessed and happy Easter!
