mommy woes
Posted in Pristine, mommy thoughts on 02/10/2007 12:54 pm by GraceI went out 2 hours early last Thursday with nothing in mind but to visit the nursery school my daughter had been attending since 2 weeks ago. There are no prior plans. I just felt I need to go there.
Truth is, Pristine had been crying everyday every time we part ways, every morning. I know she is into some adjustment with the new school in a totally new language! I hoped she would soon get used to the routine and she did, after a week, managed to kiss me goodbye minus the tears making me feel light while walking to work.
Something bothers me at night time though, she repeatedly say that she don’t want to go to school the next morning. Asking her why, she would reason out that the school is boring. After some days, the reason did not change. When her father picks her up after the school bus drop-off, she seems to be having fun, without any trace of distress in her face. But her behavior at home says otherwise. There are times she refuses to listen to any of our words and talks back as if she is an adult. Reprimanding her would just have the opposite effect. She could not sleep if not beside me. She avoids discussion about school.
Alarmed, I got out of work, boarded the bus and I went to the school last Thursday. She was happy to see me. I was happy to see her too. I talked to her teacher/s and they told me my daughter is having fun, but having difficulty understanding them because of language. Pristine can understand English but she talks mainly Japanese. They said she’ll adjust sooner of later but until then, she may be manifesting some traces of stress.
The nursery class she attends has too many children in it. In Japan, the class is limited to 10, and there are 3 teachers to care for them. She is not getting enough attention here than the previous nursery in Japan.
There are so much to be desired in the nursery services here but if I keep on comparing the quality here to that of Japan, I will never be able to send her to any.
P.S. — I am currently looking for another nursery and would be busy in a couple of days visiting the school and observing classes. The quest is still not over.
