Zip, zoom and cruise with PlasmaCar (Review)

by Grace on August 2, 2009

The mechanical marvel that is PlasmaCar is selling like hotcakes all over the world and I just found out the reason why!

Plasma Car

The wonderful people at LightBlue gave me a pink PlasmaCar for review and of course, the moment I tore the plastic cover apart, Pristine was jumping for joy because she’s been trying these out at the mall and moreso because what I brought home was pink. While we don’t normally buy toys (believe me, we can go in and out of any toy store without screaming, tears and rolling on the floor drama), we do buy simple toys every year on her birthday like a jungle gym (when we had a bigger space in Japan) and a bike. Pristine never seem to be interested in small toys including dolls. The PlasmaCar is replacing her bike right now since the tires got busted a few months ago.

I know I don’t need words to describe how happy my girl is with her new toy!

PlasmaCar

Do you know about this award-winning, popular thing called PlasmaCar?

It runs without batteries, no power-cells, no liquid fuel. WHAT?

By harnessing the natural forces of inertia, centrifugal force, gravity and friction, PlasmaCar works like magic. I know the words I just mentioned sounded scary but the good news is, you don’t have to know and learn physics to understand what the fun is all about. To operate, your child sits on the seat and simply wiggles the steering wheel back and forth. The car zips off as if motorized. The only power source the PlasmaCar requires is the seemingly limitless energy of a child.

The PlasmaCar is manufactured by PlaSmart who’s philosophy is to make smart, simple toys. PlaSmart chooses products that are smart, simple, fun and unique. They avoid electronic toys and toys that are complicated to understand or operate.

We have very limited space in our apartment but it didn’t stop the kiddo from having fun. The PlasmaCar is sleek and very easy and smooth to maneuver so there were no hitting corners. Just endless driving around and around!

School won’t start until about a 6 weeks after so the PlasmaCar is a great blessing. We can’t play outside in the park simply because of the outrageous desert heat and humidity and we all know how kid’s never seem to run out energy so they get bored by just staying indoors so the PlasmaCar had been giving her lots of entertainment at home.

Pristine loves it so much it’s the first thing she looks for when she wakes up. I am talking like I’m in my daughter’s shoes, like I have tried the toy myself. Well, the truth is, I have!

Before you comment that I am trying to destroy a child’s toy, please know that the PlasmaCar can handle a load of 100 kg (220 lbs) on a smooth, flat surface, and 55 kg (120 lbs) on a rough, flat surface. So you know what that means? Even adults (I’m talking to you moms, dads and grandparents!) can have fun! And once you’ve tasted the fun, you’d be motivated not to exceed your weight over 100 kg or you’re busted and can’t ride the PlasmaCar again!

When asked if she likes her PlasmaCar:

I love PlasmaCar

Action speaks louder than words.

It’s just 144 days to go before Christmas – moms and dads, you might want to check this out!

PlasmaCar is available from Gulf Greetings and Toy Store outlets in the UAE and across the Middle East as well as Edufun (Dubai), Krash Toys (in Abu Dhabi Mall), The Bookshop (Al Ain), the toy shop inside the Stargate Development (Dubai), Smart Kids (Doha) and others. It will be soon available in Fun Factory (Amman) and  Saudi Arabia. Retail price is AED 299.

A very big thank you to LightBlue  for this fantastic review opportunity!

It looks cool, but also looks like a redesign of the 80’s/90’s toy. I think it was called a Roller Scooter. Here is a pic: http://onceuponawin.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/win-pics-roller-racer.jpg I loved this thing!

I think these are the coolest things, I love the fact that they work on kid power. Good for the environment and for the kids.
Pristine looks absolutely adorable on her toy.
Thanks for the review and for sharing the pictures.
