Things I do before travelling
Posted in Thursday Thirteen and tagged with Thursday Thirteen on 07/24/2008 05:00 am by GraceI’m busy preparing for our vacation so I’ll make this quick:
1. Make an itinerary, usually done at least two months before.
2. Decide which clothes to bring or not
3. Iron clothes to bring
4. Label things (suitcases)
5. Compress clothes that are bulky using those vacuum sealed plastics that reduce the size and bulkiness of any fabric to less than 50%
6. Pack clothes and necessities for accompanying toddler (books, extra shirts, medicine, snacks, water bottle, wipes, etc)
7. Weigh the suitcase
8. Plan meal ahead to empty the fridge before going
9. Settle all outstanding bills
10. General house cleaning
11. Buy gifts/souvenirs
12. Inform destination of our expected date and time of arrival
13. Have plenty of rest! Dubai-Japan flight takes 15 hours including a short stopover at Hong Kong and from Narita Airport, it’s 3 hours by train to Tokyo!

You’re much more organized than I am. I’m leaving in a week and really haven’t even thought much about it yet.

I hardly travel so no wonder I’d be a mass of nerves and hardly think of half of the things you listed here before leaving on a trip. Great TT!

At first I was thinking that you are SOOOO much more organized than me and then I saw where you are going. I’m only going from VA to MA but I spend days deciding and preparing clothes.

After you’ve unpacked and unsealed the vacuum packed items what do you do about compressing those same items?

I love creating a list too.
But never use the vacuum bag for traveling before. Most of the time we manage to be able to fit it all to our suitcases. But with recent change in the rule of check-in bags, we might need to use it.

You wouldn’t like my approach to travel then! I’ve got a trip in about 15 hours and I have yet to do anything except buy a travel book, which I haven’t read. No packing, no itinerary, no nothing except I do have plane ticket and hotel reserved. I haven’t even figured out best rout to get to the hotel from the airport. Which remind me, I’d better get cracking…

I’m really impressed! I don’t pack my bag until it’s the day before my flight.
When do you arrive in Japan? Are you dropping by Osaka?
