13 THINGS TO BE HAPPY ABOUT ‘WINTER’ IN DUBAI

Believe it or not, we have this thing called winter here in the Middle East. If you are thinking that I’m living in constant heat and profuse perspiration all year round, well, it’s time you know that I am not living in hell all the time, only 4 months in a year! :-)

1. Waking up knowing the sun is there and we will not be rained.

2. Cooler temperatures; no need to turn on the air conditioner (at last) = lots of savings on the electric bill.

3. No frost in the car windows! No ice scraping on our way to work. No heater in the car either so after turning the key, we are off in a few seconds.

4. We can walk walk, run, gallop, dash, do whatever without slipping on the road (unless acting very stupid).

5. No heaters needed in the house which means we don’t need to sit miserably near the heater all the time!

6. We can still go out with minimal clothing, only add a light cardigan or day jacket and we’re all set.

7. We can still sleep in t-shirts and a pajama. No electric woolly blankets!

8. The poor car does not look like an igloo in the morning.

9. The drivers on the road are calmer. There is just something about hot weather driving people mad.

10. The water in the tap is finally back to normal. During summer, even if the water heater switch is off, water from the tap is so hot that taking a shower in the morning is unbelievably uncomfortable.

11. No more sweating and nasty skin breakouts.

12. No more running from one temperature controlled environment to another. No more heat induced headaches.

13. No more sandstorms, only cloudless blue skies (almost) everyday and no snow, of course!

It’s not quite as warm here, but I still love living where there’s no ice and snow and I almost never need gloves. We do put the heat on, but all things considered it’s downright balmy in comparison to the NY winters I grew up with.

As a heat weenie, I have to remind you that you can always put on layers for the cold, but once you’re naked in the heat, that’s all she wrote!

I can’t quite get my head around the kind of winter you describe, but that might be because my city was buried under an ice storm recently so I’m still reeling. But I’m happy for you that everything is better for the you this season. :)

This sounds great! Here, it’s been below freezing. No snow or anything pretty, just very cold. Brrr.

In Thailand too winter is the best of the year as it is cooler than the rest of time when it is too hot. It’s almost good in this season!

I’ll take the heat anyday. I’m an odd bird…heat doesn’t bother me. The hotter the better.

I’m with witchypoo! But I hear you about #5. It’s the one thing I really don’t like about Japanese winters, the huddling around the heater in one room, freezing in the others. No insulation or central heating!!?? Why? Winter in Canada on the other hand, no problem. ;)

I so admire the ways you find the positive in your life. I bet it’s nice to have a break from the heat – and no snow/ice would be a delight!

Happy TT!

I don’t know. As much complaining I do about the ice, it sure makes me appreciate … well, all of it. The days without ice. Summers. Rain.

But it sounds like you don’t need ice to appreciate things like being able to turn off the AC and take a cool shower.

Happy TT!
