13 THINGS THAT HAPPEN IF YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED ACCESS TO THE INTERNET WHILE AT WORK, EVEN ON LUNCH BREAK

1. You become restless.

2. You wonder what is happening in the outside world. I’m an information junkie and not seeing the news for the whole day makes me really weary, not to mention terribly bored during lunch break.

3. You’ll be missing friend’s blogs, and can’t wait to get home to read and comment.

4. You get reacquainted with Solitaire.

5. You develop the ability to clear mine sweeper in 10 seconds (restlessness causes sudden lucky finger reflexes).

6. You master Spider Solitaire, a game you have never touched your whole life until now, in only 30 minutes.

7. You learn to hate notepad because there is no PUBLISH button after you write a blog post.

8. You become the queen of organization and plan vacations months early, carefully detailing things to do and clothes to wear.

9. You start to think about looking for work somewhere else — a lot.

10. You plan carefully what to do online later at home for a meager two hours, 10-11pm and 5-6am. Keeping a list of tasks is essential. No more stumbling upons (the channel-flicking net style tool), no more hollywood gossip articles!

11. You realize that two hours feels like two seconds once online.

12. You think of buying a PDA/business phone that is WIFI able to be able to relieve yourself of extreme tension during spare time at work.

13. You start to cook up some ideas how to save for that PDA and how long will it take.

I am sure this made an impression that I am not working at all and just doing internet in the office.  :!: No, I am working of course, but my working schedule allows me to have some free times later in the day because of time difference (I closely coordinate with Japan and I can’t do anything when it’s late at night there) and on Saturdays and Sundays when I have to work in this part of the world and the office there is closed. And of course, there’s lunch break. Think about sudden no news reading when this is what you do during lunch break for years and years. Is this enough to explain myself?

My husband opts for the bluetooth enabled phone so he can dial in that way with his personal laptop.

Happy TT.

Oh I can totally understand how that feels. When my laptop was gone I felt totally lost!

Do you actually… you know… work? ;)

My laptop was dead for 2 weeks and I had to wait until the hubby brought home his work computer in the evenings. Made for some late nights…

Hi Krista,

Yes, I work. I was talking of course on the free times I have at work because of work schedule and lunch break. I have edited the TT to include that explanation.

Thanks for visiting!

Anyway, I hope you could get online at work. It’s our only time kai lisod kaayo sa haus..Heheh. And if it takes a PDA to do that, I hope you can get one. iTouch is good but basin naa pa mas cool ani (I’m contented though -except dili cya katawag). Heheh

Darn it! Aren’t there any libraries or internet cafe’s where you can hop on a computer at lunch time or something??

We miss you (and I just found you, so you KNOW you’re missed!)

Hee! Maybe start bringing a book with you to work. Use one of those fake dust jackets to make it look like work-related research.

I can totally understand all of them there. I will be the same way. Fortunately, they still allow us limited internet access at work. I can’t get to TT headquarter because they think it’s a chat. I just hope they don’t block all blogs.

Great list! I can’t imagine what I’d do, although reading a book would be high on my list. Reading the news sites is how I stay up on the world.

I don’t understand offices that won’t allow their employees to use the Net. A happy employee is a productive employee and so long as your work gets done, why NOT?

(well, so long as the content is okay)

You took the exact words out of my mouth! I guess I was more productive when I was able to surf once in a while when I was bored.

Grace, oh goodness. I think you’ll actually get used to it, if you can hang in there. Some REALLY good books might do the trick. After the major withdrawals, it should get better. lol! :-)

I had to come back and tell you – I got in trouble for being on the internet at work this morning! Okay, so it was my (boss)–husband, and he was wanting me to hurry up over at our office so I could come home and relieve him of kid duty! He said, HONEY, you know you need to ONLY pack orders while you’re there, and do the rest of customer service and everything else at home! Okay, okay!

Gasp, he knows! lol!
