Not only planes are flying high
Posted in Travel and tagged with gas prices, petroleum, plane fares, Travel on 07/01/2008 05:25 pm by GraceI have already booked and bought my ticket almost two months ago for my next month’s vacation. I paid for it last May so I have the printed e-ticket with me now and all that’s left to do is count the days and pack my bags.
M has not decided the date to fly out of Dubai yet because of his work schedule and while he was procrastinating, the gas prices are rising steadily everywhere in the world, breaking recorded highs. Well, except of course in oil producing countries like the UAE. We are thankful to still enjoy the price of gas that has remained unchanged since the last 18 months.
He called me this morning to tell me that he has finally decided a date. We both checked online fares and shocked to see how the prices have gone up! If he flies exactly on the same date that I do, same destination, and purchase the ticket now, his ticket will cost 1,300 dirhams (US$360) more than what I paid last May!!
The plane leaves from Dubai and will be filled up with ultra cheap gas. Why doesn’t that exempt us from the price increase? ![]()

You are lucky to leave in UAE where the gas price is cheap. At least you will get cheap gas to drive to the airport.
Flying will be more of a luxury now especially here in the States. I don’t know how we are going to afford a trip to Thailand when the ticket price is around $1500 per ticket! Yike!!
You must be very excited and looking forward to your vacation!

I’ve seen the same for a routine flight I take - used to be always around $120, now over $300. The good news is I booked a round-trip ticket for two to Boston in a couple of weeks for $10.
Oh, and 75,000 points.

Looking forward to seeing you here in Tokyo Grace. I will have a conference during that week but just here in Tokyo, so it seems I’ll be relatively free.

How fortunate for you (regarding the gas prices).
Plane ticket prices are a sticky situation. I went to price my plane ticket that I purchase a few months back and it is cheaper now than when I purchased it. Sometimes it is the exact opposite. But I have learned if you purchase your ticket way in advance (more than six months) you’ll come out better than three months before the trip.
Have a great holiday.

With gas prices so high, I’m surprised at how many people are still flying on vacation. Our flights are still oversold almost every day!
