caffeine overdose

by Grace on February 6, 2007

Coffee and I are not the best of friends. Tea? That depends because most teas have caffeine content in them, quite like coffee.

Being in the company with 99% Indian population, I get some additional dash to my regular break. I don’t have a coffee break but instead have Indian tea break. The regular officeboy we have around serves us Masala Chai, three times a day! To the unknowing, Chai in many languages is the term used for tea. It comes from cha, the Chinese word for tea. Today it is a general term for a spiced milk tea that is sweetened. The proper term, however, for this spiced tea is masala chai, masala being an Indian word meaning any spice blend.

Appears to be, Chai is a beverage that is more popular in India than coffee is in the US. That explains why every Indian I meet on the street of Dubai on my way to work carries a cup of the spice tea to start their morning.

presenting…the tea I came to love

Cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, pepper, ginger, ajwain, all-spice, coriander, chocolate, licorice root, nutmeg, vanilla, among others are the spices mostly in a cup of this richly flavored Indian tea. Coupled by the base that is black tea, which contains a lot of caffeine, there’s no sleepy soul in this part of the world.

Ginee: too much mention of the word err phrase ‘I love it’..looks like you really do love it, now go to wordpress.com and get a must love blog too!

Rose: it’s just for blog posting purposes. If it’s like that everyday, the office boy (who is preparing it) would be exhausted!
