fashion statement
Posted in Work on 02/01/2007 09:28 am by GraceI am not big into accessories. Nickel allergy is the true and direct reason for the lack of dangling earrings and flashy necklaces and bracelets. Indirect reason would include not enough money to buy platinum or at 18K above gold, better put, I find no sense in buying so much jewellry and adorning myself like I am to be crowned later in the day. Plus, I could always use the excuse that my three-year old daughter loves to de-tangle me with everything from hair clips to earrings .
These past few weeks has seen me transform from a simple gal with shirt, jeans and sneakers to an office lady with heels and business suit. Do I like the transition? Yes and no.
YES - because I would finally get used to wearing heels. I mean, all women my age (at 30, I decide to make myself part of the women community!) should have graduated from sneakers and strut in heels any day. Not me. Since arriving in Dubai and working for nearly 3 weeks, I have bought 4 pairs of shoes, desperate to find the perfect fit. My husband is already questioning my sanity. How could I not know the perfect fit while in the shoe store before tipping the contents of my wallet at the cashier? Honestly, I don’t know. I guess the love affair of the feet and the shoe, just like any other normal relationships are filled with grey areas — you could never really tell unless you actually come into that relationship and spend time with each other every day.
So, I bought the shoes I thought would give me happiness, but my feet is telling me something else! So I buy again, and again…I finally told my husband, I will not settle for cheap ones again and make my final bet on the ever reliable but too costly ECCO. This brand stands by their logo of “move comfortably without effort” — that sounds so soothing isn’t it?
Next thing about this recent fashion statement is that I need to wear suit and heels 5 days of the week. But I will reserve my complaining in summer when it will surely be too hot to wear business suit while walking for at least 15 minutes to work. Let’s hope I’ll be driving my own car that time.
