Missing my buddy
Posted in Work on 12/17/2007 06:09 am by GraceWhen I came to work in this present company, there are 20 people in the department and 19 of them are men. After a couple of months, someone came to occupy the vacant desk space beside me. She is Indian and a muslim, covered in long black gown and headress. She seemed very unfriendly at first but of course I still continued to harass and pester her with my talks. I was glad there was another female specie and I thought we should be friends!
Ayshath was shy because she did not know English very well. At first, it was very hard for us to communicate. I would use all my body parts to convey the simplest message and she would say sorry endlessly to apologize for my inconvenience. So I found a way to facilitate our little girly talks by cutting pieces of paper and scribbling the words we both wanted to say. We would sometimes explode in silent giggles which I am so happy about because I don’t have to die of boredom when I am free.
Now her English has improved a lot and she is even using some Japanese words I taught her. Ayshath has left to India for a full month vacation. I am starting to miss her terribly. Suddenly, I stopped giggling and smiling. All I do now is work, work and work and sometimes write drafts in notepad because of the current internet issue in my company.
I never knew I’d miss her this much.

I totally understand. That’s why I don’t like working with an all-guy crew. Sometimes you just need another female to talk to.

At least she will be back! It does make the day go faster when you’ve got someone nice around!

I’ve got a friend at work too. We work shifts and she has two days off which are two of the days I am on. The day drags on a lot longer when she isn’t there.

She’ll be back. And count your blessings that you found a way to connect with her. I’m sure she’s grateful, too.
