working, actually
Posted in Work on 02/05/2007 04:07 pm by Grace…actually, finally! After days of doing almost nothing and just “absorbing” the details of my recent field, the guys (I’s the only gal in a department of 18) finally gave me something to be busy about.
I am doing numerous phone calls to our Japan branch and talking in Japanese over the phone. My work assignment entails technical coordination with the Japan market and until today, my services was not needed. =(
But when it rains, it pours. Today, I signed a post delivered to me while talking on the phone. Imagine a very busy career lady! =)
The very peculiar thing about his job is, I am working Saturday-Thursday (Dubai work style) while Japan is following the “normal” work week of Monday-Friday. Add to that, there is a five-hour time difference between Japan and the UAE, which means noon in Dubai is already 5pm in Japan.
Where does that leave me?
Saturday-Sunday: no work in Japan so that would mean no work for me too (although I have to report to the office because everyone does). Monday-Wednesday: by noon here, it’s already 5pm in Japan, so normally everyone is starting to think of leaving the office…but since the Japs are the most workaholics in the world, they remain and I could still contact most of them even at 3/4 pm here (8/9pm in Japan). I can still contact them but most will say they will get things done the next day, hence, conversations are short. For Thursday when Dubai work hours are only until 1:30 p.m., not much work to be done leaving me blogging or reading the endless manuals or simply daydreaming of how to cleverly spend the next precious weekend.
